Use & Care
All candles deserve a little TLC. Make the most out of every burn with these candle care steps.
Snip Snip. Each time you light your candle, make sure to trim your wick to 1/4" first. This will ensure a clean, even burn every time! Bonus, it helps to reduce soot on the glass.
Light it up. After you light your candle, let it burn until the wax pools to the edges (especially on the very first burn).
Cool + Rest. When you're ready, extinguish the flame and let your candle completely cool before the next burn.
The Last Burn. Once your candle has only 1/2" of wax left, it's time for a new one. Continuing to burn with less than 1/2" of wax can be really dangerous (the candle could shatter or catch fire).
Warning. Burn within sight. Keep away from things that catch fire. Keep away from children. To prevent fire, place only on heat resistant surfaces. Avoid drafts. Avoid cold surfaces such as glass or marble. Keep foreign matter and wick trimmings out of candle.

I once again ordered 2 Red Currant Tortoise candles and once again one was broken. I called yesterday and complained about my previous order coming with one broken. The young lady told me she would send a replacement candle and now another needs to be replaced!!! I will expect to receive 2 replacement candles. I don’t think I’ll be ordering from you again until this has been resolved.

I love Red Currant! As I was unwrapping the box, I could smell it through the plastic! Fabulous! Receiving these is like Christmas to me. Beautiful as usual. I want to give as a gift, but can only part with them 1/4 of the time! It's sad I know, I'm working on it. But in these challenging times...my candles are an instant mood changer for me! I'll try to part with at least 1 from my order.....uh next month! Thanks Votivo!!

I am a longtime Votivo customer, and Red Currant has been one of my favorite home fragrances for more than twenty years. I also own a retail store where I sell Votivo candles, so I am very familiar with both the product and proper candle care.
I have stopped purchasing the 22.7 oz Tortoise candle because it tunnels worse than virtually any candle I have ever burned. The vessel is beautiful and Red Currant smells incredible, but the two-wick configuration simply does not appear capable of producing a full melt pool across a vessel this wide. It either needs a third wick, larger wicks, different wick placement, or some other redesign.
This has not been an isolated experience. Every customer who has purchased this size from me (in every fragrance that I offered it in) has complained about the same problem, and I have had to issue refunds because of it.
Because I love the vessel, I have tried repeatedly to make these candles burn properly. I have followed Votivo’s candle-care instructions, trimmed the wicks appropriately, burned them in a draftless area, used metal candle toppers, and even tented the candle with aluminum foil. Nothing solves the problem.
In one particularly frustrating attempt, I allowed a brand-new Tortoise candle to burn for NINE continuous hours on its first burn— more than twice Votivo’s recommended maximum burn time— in an attempt to achieve the full melt pool Votivo recommends.
